AC Cobra 427 Original Art Print
Artist Gary Green, Velocity Fine Arts
As a young man visiting San Francisco I had my chance to buy an original AC Black Cobra 289. It had a couple large dimples and a slight rod knock. The black finish was good overall and the leather was looking well. The owner, a popular music manager, wanted cash and the car to be gone. I started the garaged Cobra moved it out and about while cold, it was showing ok oil pressure but for sure there was a rod bearing knocking. Those five days in California I tried to beg borrow two thousand of the firm $4,500 cash price, but no dice from potential lenders for a 21 year old who wanted to buy a 7 year old odd ball car that had condition issues. It was a long 4 day drive back without my discovered snake in tow.
So the next British/Ford powered car I landed was in Columbus, Ohio for $900 USD. I purchased a Sunbeam Tiger 260 showing nicely in BRG paint, with black vinyl interior with a hardtop. A bit of a let down, but still great and ending being one of my other favorite British cars with some kick I’ve owned.
I found and photographed this Green Cobra for reference at a garaged car collection near by on the West Suncoast of Florida. This two month illustration painting started with color pencil, marker and highlights created with acrylics. Almost complete the last color and detail work I finished in Photoshop.
My two month endeavor is hand drawn & painted art. I worked from my numerous photos taken with a close inspection of these two vehicles. Original prints are available in 18×24” format. Larger sizes are available upon request.
